"Stationary targets, such as the
examiner's fingers, are held in front of the subject. The subject is
instructed to look back and forth between the targets on verbal
commands. The eye movements are conjugate, rapid, and accurate. The
observer looks for any differences in speeds of the eye movements
between the eyes and different directions. He evaluates the accuracy
and the ability to quickly initia te saccades on command. Slight
overshooting of saccades during refixations to center gaze targets
are often present in normal subjects. Small amplitude secondary
saccades are made to correct the slight inaccuracy. Slight
undershooting during large amplitude refixations to eccentric targets
is also normally found. "
