"This young man also has congenital nystagmus with jerk wave form that beats to the right. While fixating with his left eye, he can voluntarily overconverge causing a right esotropia and dampening the nystagmus. He spontaneously discovered that this maneuver improved his vision at distance and near. He does not have diplopia during the esotropia. The mechanism may be similar to that underlying the esotropia in the nystagmus blockage syndrome in infants."
